Blue is one of the top rated albums of all time by a female artist. When I was younger, my taste in music was in a decidedly different vein than Joni Mitchells music. I had of course heard her, she was on my mother's playlist along with Neil Diamond and Barbara Streisand. It was later in life that I re-discovered her music and as an adult I appreciated it differently that I ever could as a teenager. Blue is a timeless album that should be any music aficionados collection. The cover is a stylized photograph of Joni and I wanted to embellish the photo with hand dyed yarn embroidery. When planning the piece, I had just acquired a specialized yarn embroidery machine that I had shipped in from Japan and this is the first project that I created with it. The textural yarn looks amazing against the flat blue background of the album cover.
The albums take up to 8 hours to embroider and can contain over 200,000 stitches. The series is created and designed to be hung together so you can add to your installation wall as you discover new pieces I create. Each of the albums comes with a signed certificate and is framed in acrylic and measures 12" x 12" x 2".
