Since the conventional use of thread and embroidery has been seen in wearables, fashion has always been a major influence in my work. In addition to fashion, music has always been a leading influence in my life and for my work. I grew up in the 1970’s and music was all about record albums. This was before the Internet, iPods, CDs, or streaming.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eI remember the way the albums used to feel, reading through the liner notes and mostly admiring the art of the album itself. Album covers themselves were my first art installations. I would display them, show my friends and change them based on my mood or something I just purchased. The cover for this album is a photograph of a sculpture created to look like a a cake. Everything is perched over an album on a turntable--film reels, a tire, a clock face as well as frosting and mini figures of the band. This album has been on my wall for a while waiting for me to start it, this was a very difficult project and I kept putting it off. Someone commissioned it so it went into the lineup. I started by stitching a waxy geometric background in tonal threads to give the background some interest and then the cake. There are over 75 different colors of thread in this piece and over 100,000 painstakingly placed stitches in the project. The end result is amazing. The thread gives Let it bleed dimension and depth. The album title was created as a patch and mounted to the album as the finishing step.
The albums take up to 8 hours to embroider and can contain over 200,000 stitches.
