When creating the pieces in the Thread and timber series I wanted to take my love and appreciation for vintage American quilts and put my spin on them. Let’s start with the quilt creation. I took vintage quilt patterns like the Ohio Star and quilted them using vintage and hand dyed bandanas. The quilts were then stretched and mounted on a canvas. I then designed wooden pieces that were intricately laser cut, stained and then hand embroidered using wool and cashmere hand dyed yarn. The end results are evocative quilts that combine American history with a hint of modernism
