This work inaugurates a new series within the Vintage Western collection, drawing on the centuries-old tradition of American embroidery samplers. Since the 1600s, these samplers served as both teaching tools and personal canvases—sites where needleworkers could display their skill through decorative motifs and narrative scenes, each stitch an act of storytelling.
Reimagined for a contemporary lens, the series carries that legacy forward while expanding the vocabulary of materials and techniques explored in our studio. Each composition layers together Spanish tile–inspired patterns, tapestry-like textures, laser-cut details, cross-stitched yarn tiles, bandana appliqué, and embroidered icons. Vintage and hand-dyed fabrics are cut, stitched, and pieced into mosaics—every tile individually embroidered before being assembled into the final surface.
The effect is dynamic and dimensional, shifting with the viewer’s gaze. Some works isolate a single embroidered icon against an open ground, while others weave multiple motifs into dense, tapestry-like fields. No two pieces are alike; each offers a singular narrative, inviting viewers to linger and discover new details with every encounter.
