Embroidery stitched directly through a vinyl record sleeve.

12x12x2 inches, framed in acrylic.

Dynasty was released in 1979 following their hugely successful Love Gun album. The album contained the disco hit “I Was Made for Loving You”, possibly the only disco song by Kiss. This is my second Kiss album in this series following Destroyer. This album features close up photographs of all 4 band members collaged together. This is a very different cover style compared to earlier records and very challenging to reproduce in thread. I decided to stitch the whole album cover in thick wool thread. The faces were done using multiple layers of tight intertwined stitches in multiple colors. The layers of hair which comprise most of the photograph were created using very long stitches in multiple layers and colors. A big aspect in the art of digitizing is controlling how different layers of thread in different stitch lengths interact with each other. The finished piece has over 100,000 hand placed stitches. The logo and album title were created as patches and collaged onto the album as a final step.

The albums take up to 8 hours to embroider and can contain over 200,000 stitches. The series is created and designed to be hung together so you can add to your installation wall as you discover new pieces I create. Each of the albums comes with a signed certificate and is framed in acrylic and measures 12" x 12" x 2".
