Embroidery stitched directly through a vinyl record sleeve.

12x12x2 inches, framed in acrylic.

White Lion was an 80’s heavy metal band from NYC that had a string of hit power ballads and melodic songs powered by Vito Bratta’s virtuoso guitar playing. This is their second album that contained the hits “Wait” and ‘When the Children Cry”. The band stuck around until the early 1990’s when grunge changed the music scene and heavy metal became passé. When this album was commissioned and it came into the studio I decided to have fun with it and try something new. The album features a lions face over a stark white background with simple typography denoting the bands name and album title. I decided to appliqué the whole album cover in fake fur. Once I embroidered the fake fur in place I stitched accent stitches around the face and then embroidered all of the details of the face and typography directly through the the fur. The fur adds a lot of texture and dimension to the piece.

The albums take up to 8 hours to embroider and can contain over 200,000 stitches. The series is created and designed to be hung together so you can add to your installation wall as you discover new pieces I create. Each of the albums comes with a signed certificate and is framed in acrylic and measures 12" x 12" x 2".
